As we approach the end of a most tumultuous year, it would be easy to consider the countless negative events and relentless frustrations that have consumed the last several months. While lament is healthy and in order, continuing to mediate on the disappointments of 2020 can have negative spiritual, emotional, and even physical effects.
In Philippians 4:8, the Apostle Paul implores us to meditate on the good, the noble, and the praiseworthy. This is no easy feat. In the midst of deep sorrow and loss, it can be difficult to remember the many blessings that we have as believers (and there are many!). This is why we must saturate our lives with the Scriptures, as God’s Word reminds us of the many benefits that we have by His grace.
Last Sunday I preached on the Advent theme of “joy,” and I closed out my sermon with a list of Biblical truths, aimed at reminding believers of who we are— and what we have– in Christ. It was requested that I post this list in written form. Here you go!
* I did not compile this list; it was sent to me years ago (source unknown). I hope it blesses you.
While the disappointments of 2020 are ubiquitous, we who are in Christ have much reason to rejoice! Merry Christmas!
