“I want to, but I just don’t have the time,” is one of the most common frustrations I hear from people from all walks of life. Dreams are not becoming realities and goals are not being achieved, because countless individuals are convinced they simply can’t fit certain priorities into their schedules. Whether it is working out, cooking more often, serving in the church, praying consistently, reading the Bible regularly, building relationships, learning an instrument, starting a business venture, or numerous other things— multitudes of men and women are failing to what they want to do, because they “just can’t find the time.” That was me six years ago.
You’re Not Too Busy
My excuse for not accomplishing my goals or dreams was always, “I am just too busy.” Then it occurred to me, that most people are busy these days, and yet, others were finding ways to accomplish the things that I was only dreaming of; what gives? Thankfully, one of my mentors, Rev. Charles Hefton, taught me the great practice of budgeting my time. This… has changed my life.
The Importance of Budgeting
Most of us can relate to the importance of budgeting when it comes to our finances. If you fail to budget your paycheck, your money will disappear faster than a doughnut at a Weight Watchers meeting; hence, the perpetual song of your heart becomes, “I just don’t have any money.” BUT… apply Dave Ramsey’s zero-based budget, and your tune is sure to change; without an increase in income, you will be able to accomplish things financially you never thought possible. The same goes for time.
If you don’t manage your time, your time will manage you. We can accomplish a lot in the 168 hours, given to us each week. I have an incredible family, pastor a church, and own a business, yet I am still able to eat meals at home, workout, build relationships, read, and enjoy some of my hobbies. I even get seven hours of sleep most nights.
I hope this post has inspired you and given you some hope. In my next few posts, my aim is to show you, practically, how to budget your time. Change is coming!
Cheering you on,
